Catherine Zeta-Jones Joins Fox's Police Procedural Drama PRODIGAL SON

Catherine Zeta-Jones has joined the second season of Fox’s police procedural Prodigal Son. She will be taking on the role of Claremont’s newest psychiatric resident doctor, Dr. Vivian Capshaw.

For those of you not familiar with the series, the story follows Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), ”a gifted criminal psychologist, using his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with a manipulative mother, a serial killer father still looking to bond with his prodigal son and his own constantly evolving neuroses. Bright's only ally is his sister, Ainsley, a TV journalist who wishes her brother would take a break from murder and have a normal life. Unfortunately for his sister, the only way Bright feels normal is by solving cases with the help of his longtime mentor, NYPD Detective Gil Arroyo. Arroyo's one of the best detectives around, and he expects no less from his team, which includes Detective JT Tarmel, a born-and-bred New Yorker who questions whether Bright is a psychopath himself.”

Season 2 picks up where the last season left off, with protagonist Malcolm Bright’s life in shambles after the actions of his sister, Ainsley may threaten to tear the family apart all over again. Further complicating matters is Bright’s deepening relationship with his homicidal father.”

Zeta-Jones will make regular appearances in the latter half of the series opposite Michael Sheen, who plays infamous serial killer Dr. Martin Whitly, also known as “The Surgeon”. In this new story arc, Whitley is assigned to infirmary duty where Zeta-Jones’ Capshaw “revels in tasking the charismatic psychopath with tedious, debasing tasks. But as Martin proves his genius to Capshaw, the doctor begins to see his twisted expertise as an asset (which may not necessarily be a good thing).”

Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, FOX Entertainment, said in a statement:

“An extraordinary talent, Catherine Zeta-Jones is the perfect foil for the brilliant Michael Sheen. I can’t wait to see these two greats go head-to-head in a season that is bound to raise the bar set by an outstanding Season One.”

Prodigal Son Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, January 12th on Fox and the series also stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, Keiko Agena, Halston Sage and Bellamy Young.
