BIRDS OF PREY Director Cathy Yan to Helm SOUR HEARTS for A24

Back in 2017, A24 optioned a collection of short stories called Sour Heart: Stories from Jenny Zhang. Now, it looks like they’ve found their director for the film in Cathy Yan. That’s right, after she finishes her work on Birds of Prey, Yan will be directing an adaptation called Sour Hearts that she will co-write with Zhang.

“The movie unfolds from the perspective of a girl growing up in the outer boroughs of New York in the ’90s. With parents newly arrived from Shanghai, the family works through the unique trials of ascending to the middle class. A coming-of-age tale told with insight and humor, the story offers a sweeping perspective on the humility and heartache of the immigrant experience, as told from the point of view of children and parents.”

There’s no release date or casting announced quite yet for Sour Hearts. Are you excited to see Yan grow in her career?
