CBS All Access is Working with Sony Pictures to Try to Save ONE DAY AT A TIME

Last month, Netflix cancelled One Day at a Time. Fans were devastated at the news, and celebrities like Lin-Manuel Miranda became very vocal about hoping to see it picked up by another outlet. Many were not very hopeful though since Netflix has a special clause in their contracts that gives the streaming giant the ability to prevent another streaming service to have any of its original programs for at least two years. Well, some are trying to get the show anyway.

CBS All Access is interested in getting the show from Sony, offering at least one season to the show. Vulture reports that their sources say that Norman Lear has personally reached out to Netflix’s Ted Sarandos to waive the veto rights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look to be working, but that’s not stopping CBS All Access and Sony from working on saving the show.

Vulture does also report that the veto rights only include streaming networks and so if CBS or one of its cable platforms (like Pop TV) wanted to, Netflix couldn’t say no.

A reimagining of the iconic Norman Lear sitcom, One Day at a Time is a hilarious and heartfelt comedy that follows three generations of a Cuban-American family sometimes-reluctantly cohabitating and navigating the ups and downs of life. A newly-single mom and military veteran journeys through the triumphs and tribulations that come with raising two strong-willed, mega-millennial children, all the while enlisting the “help” of her old-school mother and her building manager-turned-invaluable confidante. Through a contemporary lens, One Day at a Time offers a glimpse at what life looks like, in good times and bad — and how those around you somehow make it all worthwhile.

Would you want to see this show saved by CBS All Access? Is there another network you’d prefer?
