CBS is Producing a SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Prequel Series Titled CLARICE with Producer Alex Kurtzman
CBS is set to produce a new crime drama titled Clarice, and it will be set after the events Thomas Harris’ classic crime story The Silence Of the Lambs. Clarice Starling is a great and interesting character and I think it’s great that her character will get explored more in a new series.
The story is set in 1993, “a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs. The series is a deep dive into the untold personal story of Clarice Starling, as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high stakes political world of Washington, D.C.”
Clarice grew up in West Virginia until she was 10, when her father, a police officer, was shot and killed. She moves to her uncle’s farm in Montana, but later runs away and winds up in an orphanage. After college, she applies to the FBI academy.
Clarice is being written and executive produced by Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek: Discovery) and Jenny Lumet (Star Trek: Discovery), and it’s said to be a big series commitment for the network. A writer’s room has been set up for the series and according to Deadline, there is a lot of enthusiasm for the show.
Kurtzman and Lumet had this to say in a statement:
“After more than 20 years of silence, we’re privileged to give voice to one of America’s most enduring heroes – Clarice Starling. Clarice’s bravery and complexity have always lit the way, even as her personal story remained in the dark. But hers is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory. Her time is now, and always.”
Clarice will certainly be a high-profile role for a young actress and it will be interesting to see who ends up playing the character this time.
