Channing Tatum Confirms His Adaptation of THE MAXX Is Still Happening and Shares His Love of the Character

Not long after it was reported that Channing Tatum’s The Maxx film adaptation was moving forward at Paramount Pictures, the actor confirmed the report and talked about how much he loves the character. Tatum shared the following in an Instagram post:

"This is a childhood love of mine. The truly brilliant genius creation of Sam Keith. When i was grounded and wasn't aloud to watch TV, this was the cartoon on MTV's Oddities I would risk it all for. Sneak out of bed and put it on and pray I didn't get caught. Even now after all this time it feels some how still ahead of its time. The characters in the this -- The Maxx, Julie Winters, and Mr. Gone -- taught me things about life. Seeded complex ideas in my young mind that had a profound effect on how I viewed the world and the roles we play, that I only intellectually understood way later."

Tatum is obviously very passionate about this property, and it will be interesting to see how he brings this character to life in a movie. Crystal Moselle (The Wolfpack, State Kitchen) is attached to write and direct the film.

I was a big fan of The Maxx, and I still have all the comics I collected from when I was teenager in the ‘90s. I also enjoyed that wild animated series adaptation from MTV!

Originally published by Image Comics in 1993, The Maxx is known for its blend of superhero and psychological drama elements. The story follows Maxx, a homeless man who believes himself to be a powerful superhero in an alternate reality known as the "Outback." In the real world, Maxx is a vagrant taken care of by a social worker named Julie Winters. The series explores the complex interplay between Maxx's delusions and his real-life struggles, as well as the trauma and psychological issues faced by both Maxx and Julie.

The Maxx follows the dual identities of Maxx and Julie, and while Maxx is aware of the Outback, Julie is not, though the alternate realm is essential to both of their stories.
