Channing Tatum Says They Are Starting Over With The GAMBIT Movie Thanks to LOGAN and DEADPOOL
Channing Tatum's Gambit movie has been in development hell for awhile. I'm one of many fans who are wondering if the movie will actually ever happen. Tatum seems to think it will, though! In fact during a recent interview with Hey U Guys, he confirmed that the film project is pressing forward and that they are completely starting over. This is all thanks to the success Logan and Deadpool.
Tatum believes that all of the setbacks that the film production has been for the benefit of the development of the film and that in the end, it will turn out better because of the issues. Here's what he said:
“We lit a fuse on the first one and just blew it completely out of the water. I think we got lucky – we got hit with some setbacks and it was all for a good reason. We were trying to do something completely different. We were trying to do something that this genre of movie hasn’t seen before. We kept running into the same problems, and then Deadpool and Logan came through and kicked the doors down. Now we’re really getting to do some of the things we’ve always wanted to do with the script – we’ve just sort of started over.”
Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) have both been attached to the project to direct it, but each of them dropped out due to creative differences.
It's good to hear that Gambit is still in the cards, though. I'm a huge fan of the character and I think Tatum is the perfect actor to play him. If we end up getting a Gambit movie that is as good as what we saw in Logan and Deadpool... awesome! Maybe the wait will be worth it.
