Characters Revealed For The New STAR WARS RESISTANCE Anime Series and Possible Premiere Date

A couple of months ago Lucasfilm announced a new Star Wars animated series in development called Star Wars Resistance. Today we have a first look at the characters who will fill the series, which you can see below.

As you can see, there are a couple of familiar faces there that include Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma. The new show revolves around a character named Kazuda Xiono, who is described as "a young pilot recruited by the Resistance whose mission is to spy on the growing threat of the First Order."

Oscar Isaac is reprising his role as Poe and Gwendoline Christie will be back as Captain Phasma! The series will also include BB-8 and introduce several other new characters that we don't have any details on yet other than what's in the visual above.

Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone WarsStar Wars Rebels) created the series. Several other producers of those previous series will join him as producers including Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge and Brandon Auman. When talking about the inspiration behind the series, Filoni said:

"The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that's been a big influence on me. There's a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we've captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time."

I love the idea of an anime-insired style Star Wars series! The rest of the voice cast includes Christopher Sean (Days of Our Lives), Suzie McGrath (East Enders), Scott Lawrence(Legion), Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Donald Faison(Scrubs), Bobby Moynihan (DuckTales), Jim Rash (Community) and Rachel Butera (Tammy's Tiny Tea Time).

It was also reported that the show will make its debut in October on Disney XD. That information comes from a Disney France employee.

I'm excited about this series! Lucasfilm has made some amazing animated shows in the past and I imagine this is going to be just as awesome!
