Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek Attempt an Epic Prison Escape in Thrilling Trailer For PAPILLON
Bleecker Street has released the first fantastic trailer for a thrilling adventure film called Papillon. The film is based on the true story of a man framed for murder and his epic escape from prison.
The movie stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim) and Rami Malek (Mr. Robot, Bohemian Rhapsody). It's based on the autobiographic books Papillon and Banco.
The film follows the epic story of Henri “Papillon” Charrière (Hunnam), a safecracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in the notorious penal colony on Devil’s Island. Determined to regain his freedom, Papillon forms an unlikely alliance with a convicted counterfeiter Louis Dega (Malek), who in exchange for protection, agrees to finance Papillon’s escape.
Papillon was directed by Michael Noer (R, Northwest) from a script written by Aaron Guzikoswski (Prisoners). This isn't the first film based on this story. There was a great film released in 1973 which starred Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.
The title of the film is the French word for butterfly and it refers to Charrière’s own tattoo, which is what earned him the nickname.
The film is set to hit theaters on August 24th.
