Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum to Star in Family Comedy DANCE PARENTS at Universal
Following a big bidding war, Universal Pictures has landed the family comedy Dance Parents, with Charlize Theron (Monster, The Old Guard) and Channing Tatum (Magic Mike, Deadpool & Wolverine) on board to produce, develop and star in.
Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies, Nine Perfect Strangers) is attached to direct and produce, and Meghan Malloy (Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken) is attached to pen the script.
The story’s details are being kept under wraps, but the film is said to be a comedy that drew a lot of attention at bid. By the name, we can assume the film may be set the world of young competitive dancers and their super-passionate parents.
The pic marks a dancing reunion for the two stars, who first paired up on a dance floor together at the 2013 Academy Awards when Theron and Tatum danced onstage together. The world of dance is nothing new to Tatum, who had his breakout role in the dance drama Step Up and went on to star in the Magic Mike franchise.
This also marks a reunion for Theron and Levine in the comedy world, who worked together on the 2019 political comedy Long Shot.
