Charming Full Trailer for James L. Brooks’ Comedy ELLA MCCAY
20th Century Studios has released the full trailer for James L. Brooks’ upcoming comedy Ella McCay, and it looks like the kind of heartfelt, smartly funny story only Brooks can deliver.
This marks his return to the director’s chair for the first time since How Do You Know in 2010, and fans of his classic hits like As Good as It Gets and Broadcast News will instantly feel that familiar wit.
Emma Mackey stars as Ella McCay, an ambitious young politician trying to balance her chaotic personal life with the pressures of public service. She’s stepping into some big shoes, taking over the job of her mentor, a longtime incumbent governor, and learning what it really takes to lead, both at home and in office.
The film’s ensemble cast includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Lowden, Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Rebecca Hall, Julie Kavner, Albert Brooks, and Woody Harrelson.
The new trailer leans into the humor, but it’s also filled with warmth and emotion. It’s described as “a comedy about the people you love and how to survive them.”
Ella McCay opens in theaters on December 12, 2025. It looks like a sharp, funny, and genuinely feel-good return from one of Hollywood’s great storytellers.
