Check Out This Awesome Rare 1980 Documentary For THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK!
There are a lot of old documentaries and behind-the-scenes “making of” videos from the 70s and 80s that have been made for George Lucas’ Star Wars films. Most hardcore fans have seen many of them, but today we have a rare one to share with you that has said to have been lost and you don’t want to miss it!
The hour-long 1980 documentary puts the focus on the making of The Empire Strikes Back and it’s packed full of all kinds of awesome behind-the-scenes footage! It’s so cool to get a new in depth look at the development of the Star Wars film that so many fans love.
The doc also features some wonderful interviews with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. George Lucas isn’t around much, but listening to director Irvin Kershner and Gary Kurtz talk about the film is so cool. It’s interesting to hear Kershner talk about how the film is a not a sci-fi movie, and explain why it’s more of fairytale story.
It’s also funny to watch Hamill, Fisher, and Ford talk about the love triangle between Luke, Leia, and Han because they have no idea at the time that Luke and Leia are brother and sister! There’s so much great stuff packed into this doc and I enjoyed watching ever bit of it.
The doc was directed by Michel Parbot for Sygma Television and it comes to us from Adywan and was originally shared on Nerdist. Apparently, Adywan managed to get a DVD copy of the documentary that a man in France made after winning a reel copy of the film at an auction. This is the first time the doc has been seen since it first aired back in 1980.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this doc. It completely made my day!
