Cherie Johnson Set to Reprise Her Role in Upcoming PUNKY BREWSTER Reboot
Punky Brewster is back, and she’s bringing her best friend with her. It was previously reported that the series was making a comeback, and the star, Soleil Moon Frye, is set to return and executive produce. Now we have word that Cherie Johnson, who played the character of the same name on the popular 1980’s series, will be back as well. This is the first bit of casting news we have received besides that of the initial report saying Frye would be bringing the follow-up series back to TV.
Deadline reports the following synopsis and character description:
On the multicamera/hybrid continuation of the 80s sitcom about a bright young girl raised by a foster dad, Punky (Frye) is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self.
Johnson will once again play Cherie, best friend of Punky (Frye) since they were kids. In fact, they’re more like sisters. To Punky’s kids, she’s Aunt Cherie. Her life-long friendship with Punky inspired her to become a social worker, helping orphaned kids.
I think this is a really fun way to bring back the series and make it more realistic and exciting for original fans. Punky Brewster is set to air on NBCU’s upcoming streaming service entitled Peacock when it premieres in April of 2020. Are you excited for this series?
