CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE Author Tomi Adeyemi Slams Paramount's Adaptation - “I Will Not Watch it”

Things have taken an unexpected turn for Paramount's upcoming adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, and it's the author of the book who is not happy.

Tomi Adeyemi appeared enthusiastic about seeing her bestselling fantasy novel make the leap to the big screen. She even co-wrote the screenplay that Paramount ultimately decided to produce. But now, just months ahead of the film's release, she doesn’t want anything to do with it.

A series of cryptic social media posts from Adeyemi eventually led to a blunt statement that has sparked all kinds of speculation among fans.

“There is a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work… I have not seen the film, and I will not watch it. It’s been painful holding this back from you all.”

Naturally, fans want answers, but none have been given. Adeyemi hasn't explained what happened between her and Paramount, and that's probably not by choice.

If there are confidentiality agreements involved, there's little chance she'll publicly reveal what went wrong. That hasn't stopped people from trying to connect the dots, though.

Adding even more fuel to the speculation, fans noticed that Adeyemi appears to have blocked Amandla Stenberg, who stars as Zélie Adebola in the film. Whether that's connected to the larger situation or something completely unrelated remains unknown, but it's only added another layer to the mystery.

The original novel follows Zélie Adebola, a young woman determined to restore magic to the kingdom of Orïsha after her magic-wielding mother is killed and a ruthless king crushes anyone connected to magic.

Alongside a rogue princess, Zélie embarks on a dangerous quest to bring magic back to her people while discovering powers of her own. The story blends themes of oppression, injustice, and resistance with rich West African mythology, making it one of the most distinctive fantasy novels released in recent years.

Some fans are wondering whether the film may have drifted too far from Adeyemi's original vision. Rumors surrounding script revisions, reshoots, and the movie's January theatrical release have only added to the conversation.

January has long carried the reputation of being a difficult month for major studio releases, leaving some fans uneasy about Paramount's confidence in the project.

There was a time when Disney and Lucasfilm were in the running to adapt Children of Blood and Bone. Now, instead of excitement surrounding one of the year's biggest fantasy films, much of the conversation has shifted toward why the author who created the story doesn't even want to see the finished movie.
