CHILDREN OF THE SEA to Make Limited Theatrical Release in North America

GKIDS and Fathom Events are bringing anime fans in North America a new film from STUDIO4°C. Children of the Sea is directed by Ayumu Watanabe, features a score by Joe Hisaishi, and is an adaptation of the manga by Daisuke Igarashi. There will be showings of the subtitled and dubbed versions available as special events before a limited theatrical release. The subbed showings will be on April 20, the dubbed on April 22, and then a limited theatrical release on April 24.

When Ruka was younger, she saw a ghost in the water at the aquarium where her dad works. Now she feels drawn toward the aquarium and the two mysterious boys she meets there, Umi and Sora. They were raised by dugongs and hear the same strange calls from the sea as she does. Ruka’s dad and the other adults who work at the aquarium are only distantly aware of what the children are experiencing as they get caught up in the mystery of the worldwide disappearance of the oceans’ fish.

In addition to enjoying the film, audiences will be able to enjoy a special interview with Watanabe and Kenichiro Akimoto, the CGI director. You’ll be able to purchase tickets on March 12 from Fathom Events and on the official website. If you live in Canada, you can also check Cineplex for information about potential showtimes.
