Chilling First Trailer for Netflix's WHEN THEY SEE US Series About the Central Park Five
We have a chilling trailer for you today for a four part series coming to Netflix called When They See Us, a miniseries chronicling the case of the Central Park Five. In April of 1989, 28 year old Trisha Meili, a white women, was jogging through Central Park. She was violently attacked and raped and was left in a coma for 12 days. At the time, five teenage boys of color were charged with assault, robbery, riot, rape, sexual abuse, and attempted murder. This was despite the fact that none of their DNA matched the rape kit, and all of their confessions were thought to be false or coerced. All the young men were sentenced to between five and fifteen years in prison. A serial rapist later confessed to the crime, and the young men were exonerated. But the wrongful conviction and time in prison could not be erased.
The series follows their lives beginning on that fateful night in 1989, and the years after. I am extremely interested this series, but I can tell from the trailer that it is going to be heartbreaking to watch. You just can’t help but imagine being the parent of one of those kids, knowing that your child isn’t capable of something so horrendous, but knowing that as a minority, you are already at such a deficit in the court system.
The ensemble cast is pretty incredible, and features some great actors that include Jovan Adepo (Fences), newcomer Asante Blackk, Marsha Stephanie Blake (Orange Is The New Black), Emmy Award Nominee Michael Kenneth Williams (Vice, 12 Years a Slave), Academy Award Nominee Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel, The Departed), Emmy Award Winner John Leguizamo (Bloodline, Waco), Academy Award Nominee and Emmy Award Winner Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives, Trans America), Emmy Award® Nominee Niecy Nash (Getting On, Reno 911), Emmy Award® Winner and two-time Golden Globe Nominee Blair Underwood (In Treatment, Give), Emmy Award and Grammy Award® Winner and Tony Award® Nominee Christopher Jackson (Hamilton), Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek), Omar Dorsey (Selma), Adepero Oduye (12 Years A Slave), Famke Janssen, Aurora Perrineau, Dascha Polanco, William Sadler, Jharrel Jerome, Aunjanue Ellis, Kylie Bunbury, Storm Reid, Chris Chalk, Freddy Miyares, Justin Cunningham, Ethan Herisse, Caleel Harris, and Marquis Rodriguez.
When They See Us hits Netflix on May 31. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you will be tuning in.
