Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart Set to Star in Lizzie Borden Movie
“Lizzie Borden took an axe/and gave her mother 40 whacks/when the job was finally done/gave her father 41.”
One story that fascinated me as a kid was the one that revolved around the Lizzie Borden murders. There have been several incarnations of the story over the years, one of the most recent being a TV movie that starred Christina Ricci.
We now have a feature film adaptation in the works, which will star Kristen Stewart and Chloe Sevigny. Sevigny will take on the role of Borden, who was acquitted in 1892 for murdering her father and stepmother with an axe. The actress was actually set to take on the role in an HBO miniseries from producer Tom Hanks at one point, but that project fell apart. Hanks’ Playtone production company is serving as an executive producer on this film project, though.
Stewart will play Bridget Sullivan in the story. She was the Bordens’ live-in maid who testified at the trial. She was actually at the house when the murders were committed.
The film has yet to be given a title, but it will explore “the true events that led up to the infamous double murder.” The psychological thriller will be directed by Pieter Van Hees (Waste Land) from a script written by Bryan Kass.
This is such a dark, twisted, and horrific story and it's great that it is getting a proper film. Sevigny is a great actress, and it's a huge plus that she's on board the project.
