Chris Columbus is Set to Write and Direct The FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S Movie

Chris Columbus, the director behind Home Alone, Harry Potter, and Mrs. Doubtfire, has officially signed on to write and direct the feature film adaptation of the hit horror video game Five Nights at Freddy's. This seems like a great film project for the director to take on. It's the kind of movie that fits his style. Don't forget, Columbus is also the guy who wrote The Goonies, Young Sherlock Holmes and Gremlins.

If you're not familiar with Five Nights at Freddy's, the story centers on a security guard who has to battle animatronic robots that come to life in a Chuck E. Cheese-like venue. And these things are supposed to be terrifying. My kids love this game franchise and they are constantly screaming when they play it. There are six games in the franchise and there's also a series of novels and retail merchandise lines.

This has the potential to be an incredibly fun family horror film and with Columbus at the helm we might actually get a great film adaptation. Gil Kenan (Poltergeist) was originally supposed to direct when the movie was set up at New Line Cinema. The movie is now being produced by Blumhouse Pictures.

Do you think the franchise is in good hands with Columbus?
