Chris Evans Clarifies the Version of Buzz Lightyear He's Playing in Pixar's LIGHTYEAR
Last week we learned that Pixar was developing a Buzz Lightyear origin story film titled Lightyear and that Chris Evans would be providing the voice of the character. Some fans are upset that Tim Allen wasn’t asked to return to voice the character.
In a tweet that Evans sent out, he clarifies that his version of the character in this movie is not the same Buzz Lightyear character that Tim Allen voiced. So, he’s not replacing Allen, instead, he’s playing a completely different version of the character that may change how we see the Space Ranger and the 1995 original movie.
Evans explained on Twitter, “Just to be clear, this isn’t Buzz Lightyear the toy. This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on.”
So, Evans is playing the real-life Buzz Lightyear, the astronaut in the Toy Story universe that the toy is based on, the one who got an amazing merchandising deal. The Buzz Lightyear we know and love from the film is based on this person, and it’s safe to say that Emperor Zurg is not actually his father.
This is definitely an interesting direction to take things, and I like it! This is something about Buzz Lightyear that we never knew before. It was never established that the toy was based on a real person in the Toy Story universe. It’ll be fun to see how this story plays out.
