Chris Evans Is Reportedly Done with Captain America After AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR
We've always known that Chris Evans wouldn't play Captain America forever, and it looks like his time as Steve Rogers is on the verge of coming to an end.
When Marvel first approached Evans to take on the role, they wanted him to sign a nine picture deal, which he turned down. They ended up agreeing to six films, and that obligation will be fulfilled with Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel.
A recent profile in Esquire reports that the actor is definitely ready to move on and that he most likely won't be coming back for more. As he has previously stated, he's looking to focus on directing and taking on new and different roles.
Settling in on the couch, he groans. Evans explains that he’s hurting all over because he just started his workout routine the day before to get in shape for the next two Captain America films. The movies will be shot back to back beginning in April. After that, no more red- white-and-blue costume for the thirty-five-year-old. He will have fulfilled his contract.
It's explained that the long film shoots, promotional tours, and preparation for these Marvel movies leave him little time to focus on his personal passions, the things he wants to fulfill.
I imagine Marvel has been preparing for his departure and maybe we'll see him sacrifice his life to help save the world in the upcoming Avengers film. Maybe they'll show him retire and maybe Marvel will try to get him to sign up for more films, but I doubt that's an option that will happen.
I'd be totally fine with Captain Amerca's run in the MCU ending with the Infinity War films, especially if he does end up sacrificing himself. That would actually add some heavy emotional weight to the MCU, which is something we've really never felt before. We have yet to experience the death of a main MCU hero.
