The Russo Brothers are currently developing their upcoming Netflix action spy thriller The Grey Man, which stars Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling, and Ana de Armas.

The story follows a freelance assassin and former CIA operative named Court Gentry. The story is described as an “action thriller that centers on a deadly duel between killers as Gentry (Gosling) is hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a former cohort of Gentry’s at the CIA.”

In a recent interview with the Light Camera Bartstool podcast, Joe Russo talks about Evans character and says he is playing a unique villain:

"He’s a really unique character, and this is Evans as a villain so it’s a really interesting character and I think he’s going to get to flex quite a bit in this role.”

The directors also pointed out that the movie is going to be a "modern interpretation of a spy thriller" and "a big pop culture film infused with modern thematics and politics." They’ve previously compared the film to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

It’ll be interesting to see Evan take on the role of a villain. He already did it once in Knives Out, but this is going to be very different from that.

The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Mark Greaney, Anthony and Joe Russo are co-directing from a script written by Joe. Netflix is reportedly putting up $200 million to fund the project and the film will start shooting in March 2021.
