Chris Hemsworth Admits THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Was Too Silly and Shares the Problem with Recent Marvel Movies

A lot of Marvel fans didn’t care for director Taika Wiatiti’s Thor: Love and Thunder, and I personally thought that it was just way too over-the-top silly. Silly to the point where things got stupid. Well, it turns out that the film’s star Chris Hemsworth also thought the movie was too silly and admitted that there are parts of the film that he cringes at. During a recent interview with GQ, Hemsworth opened up about the reception of the movie, saying that even his children's friends criticized the movie to his face:

"It's a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film. We thought this one had too much humor, the action was cool but the VFX weren't as good.' I cringe and laugh equally at it. I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly. It's always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it's always a ride. But you just don't know how people are going to respond."

I can see how they find themselves in a bubble while making a movie like this and things just got a little out of hand with this one. This might have been a really good film had they scaled back on the ridiculousness and put more of a focus on the story.

Hemsworth also went on to talk about the problem with recent Marvel movies. Hemsworth said that he thought Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was "really cool,” but he still hasn’t seen Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. When he asked the interviewer what she thought of the movie, she wondered why they made it such a big story. It’s at this point that Hemsworth mentioned that those looming doomsday threats have become over-saturated. He explained:

"That's the trick: you have to separate all those stories. The moment it's like, 'Your world is in danger, the entire universe!' It's like, 'Yeah, so [it] was the last 24 films.' It has to become a bit more personal and grounded."

I 100% agree, and I’m happy to see that at least one actor in the MCU realizes that. Marvel definitely needs to shift the focus to "more personal and grounded" stories for their characters.
