Chris Hemsworth Confirms He'll Continue To Play Thor in The MCU After THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER
It doesn’t sound like Chris Hemsworth has any plans to retire as Thor anytime soon. We know he’ll be back as Thor in director Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder, but we have no idea what is going to happen with the character beyond that. One thing we do know now though, is that Hemsworth plans on continuing to play the character beyond the next Thor film.
During a recent interview with Elle Man, Hemsworth was asked if he planned on retiring as Thor, and he responded with:
"Are you crazy ?! I'm not going into any retirement period (laughs). Thor is way too young for that. I'm only 1500 years old! It is definitely not a film that I say goodbye to this brand. At least I hope so."
Hemsworth didn't elaborate on that or share any other details, but he did reiterate how happy he is with the script for Thor: Love and Thunder, saying:
"After reading the script, I can say that I am very excited. For sure there will be a lot of love and a lot of lightning in this production (laughs). I'm glad that after all that happened in Avengers: Endgame, I'm still part of the Marvel Universe and we can continue the story of Thor. Of course, I can't tell you anything about the plot, but to satisfy your curiosity, I'll say that I had a lot more fun reading the script than on Thor Ragnarok, and that proves something, because this movie was brilliant."
We don’t know much about the story that the movie will tell, but Waititi previously shared an update, saying that the movie will be “insane” and “very romantic.” When teasing the insanity of the film, the director revealed that there would be Space Sharks, and he also explained that this movie would make Ragnarok look safe:
“It makes Ragnarok feel like a really run-of-the-mill, really safe film. This new movie feels like we asked a bunch of 10-year-olds what they wanted to see and then just said yes to every single thing.”
We also know that Christian Bale will be playing the villain in the film, and it has been confirmed that Tessa Thompson’s character Valkyrie will go on the hunt for her "Queen" in the story after being appointed King of Asgard.
As for the female Thor storyline, it’s based on Jason Aaron’s comic book run on The Mighty Thor, the story of which follows a cancer-stricken Jane Foster as she takes up the mantle and powers of Thor. We don’t know for sure yet if the cancer element will be a part of the film’s story, but Natalie Portman will be back in the role of Jane Foster, which is exciting!
