Chris Hemsworth Offers Details in His Villainous FURIOSA Character and Some Wild Stunt Work
Chris Hemsworth recently opened up about director George Miller’s upcoming movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. He specifically offers some additional insight into his villainous character Dementus and some of the wildly insane stunts that he found himself doing while shooting. When talking about how evil his character is, the actor shared with Empire:
“He’s a pretty horrible individual. Through the whole film we kept coming back to, ‘This is evil, but what is the intention behind it?’ It’s not just sadistic insanity. There is a real purpose, the wheels are turning, he’s plotting and planning and ten steps ahead of everyone else.
It’s explained that Dementus even imagines himself as something of a father figure to Furiosa, who is played by Anya Taylor-Joy. He says:
“I think that’s how he sees himself. I think there’s a paternal quality and nature to the relationship in his eyes. [Furiosa] would, I’m sure, argue to her death the complete opposite.”
As for the stunt work that Hemsworth found himself doing, he shared:
“The chariot bike is the wildest piece of machinery I’ve ever driven, and I loved every second of it. I mean, hanging off a crane at one point and being loaded onto a monster truck, and then on the monster truck someone unclips me off a harness and the truck spins away into a burnout. How this world comes from one of the kindest individuals, I’ll never know…”
Yeah, that sure does sound like a freakin’ blast! The story takes place over the course of 15 years and it leads directly into the events of Mad Max: Fury Road.
In the film, "As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is scheduled to hit theaters on May 24, 2024. It can’t get here soon enough!
