Chris Hemsworth on Thor's Journey in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Avengers: Age of Ultron is going to be amazingly insane! A lot is going to happen in that movie, and at the end of it The Avengers aren't going to be the same. What happens in this film is going to help set up the Civil War storyline that we will see in Captain America 3. I can't wait to see exactly what's in store for us in this movie. Thanks to Chris Hemsworth, though, we have a little information on Thor's journey throughout the story. BuzzFeed had the opportunity to talk to the actor on the set of the film a few months ago. Hemsworth and Chris Evans were shooting a battle scene the day they were there that director Joss Whedon described as a "miserable place; everywhere robots." When talking about shooting a scene like that Hemsworth said,

"The biggest thing is just not looking stupid. You’ve just got to remember there’s another 30 different stages that are going to come into it before anyone will see that on screen. You know the rhythm of it, [but] what becomes a challenge is trying to not repeat the same thing all the time. So you’ve got to work that bit harder to see what else you can do with the character."

I can imagine that after playing the same character over and over again, it would be hard to keep things fresh and change things up a bit. The actor then talked about what Thor will be doing in the movie other than helping the Avengers team stop Ultron from destroying the world.

"It was just lightening up a bit. [Age of Ultron] gave us room to kind of make him a little more grounded and human and have him in some civilian clothes and mixing it up at a party. I want to do those scenes more. It’s what I loved about the first [Thor film]. There was an innocence and naïveté to him, which as he matured into the king of the second [Thor film] — or the rightful king — we sort of lost a little bit of that. That was that story."

Obviously one of the main things that Thor won't have to worry about this time around is his villainous half-brother Loki. Hemsworth said,

"I mean, [I] loved working with Tom [Hiddleston], and that relationship is so much fun. But that also kept us in a bit of a box, because, you know, three films on one relationship, how much further can you go? What else can you do different? It was nice to have a whole different sort of motivation."

I'll admit, it's going to be a little weird not seeing Loki in this movie, but he'll have his day in the spotlight again. I don't think he'll be missed much by audiences in Age of Ultron, especially with everything else they have going on. Hemsworth was then pressed for details about Thor's motivation in the story, about which he only said,

“Whereas the first [Avengers] was [about] the journey of the team, I think, this time, you have six or seven things going on, which I was really impressed by. I like where Thor has been taken in this. He sort of sees a whole other side to what’s going on in the conflict, and another potential threat. And he kind of segues a bit and has his own little sort of journey.”

Thor has been a great character to follow in these movies, and it will be good to see him completely out of his element this time around. When it comes to the physicality of the role, Chris Hemsworth admitted,

"It’s not so much the staying in shape; Once you get to the shape, maintaining it — it’s work, but it’s less work than trying to get it off to do another role, or to put it back on when you start from scratch. That’s been tough."

Apparently, when he filmed Ron Howard's In the Heart of the Sea in-between Thor: the Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron, he had to lose some weight, and it was difficult for him to pump himself back up for Age of Ultron

BuzzFeed notes that Hemsworth will being shooting Thor 3 in 2016, which means the next installment could be released in either the May 5th, 2017 or November 3rd, 2017. Those are Marvel movie release dates that have yet to be officially claimed.
