Chris Hemsworth Says Mark Ruffalo Worried THOR: RAGNAROK Would Ruin Their Characters
Director Taika Waititi’s first foray into superhero films was the 2017 flick Thor: Ragnarok. In hindsight, we can all say the movie was totally genius, as it took the underutilized character of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and launched him into the spotlight as a comedic hero we all loved more than ever.
It pushed Hulk’s (Mark Ruffalo) character into new dimensions and introduced us to the badass that is Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). We also got to see Jeff Goldblum as the kooky Grandmaster with a story that highlighted Thor’s past and included an epic battle. It was a bright and visually epic film with more humor than we had previously seen in any Thor film, rivaling the comedic tones in any of the Iron Man or Ant-Man films.
The movie was so refreshing and is one of my favorite Marvel movies for sure, but before it became the success it did, it felt like a risk to the stars, as it was so different from the films before it. Hemsworth recounted the feelings of his costars this past weekend while attending ACE Comic-Con and talking about the film. Here’s what he had to say:
“I remember Mark Ruffalo looking at me and saying, ‘Are we wrecking this movie? Are we destroying these characters?’ Tessa was like, ‘What am I a part of? What am I doing?’”
But through the trepidation, Hemsworth was ready to take the risk and felt really good about the project. Talking about its success, he went on to say:
“I wanted it to work so badly and I knew that we left everything on the field, so I had such a positive feeling about our approach to making that movie.
It certainly did pay off in a big way, and gave us a great platform for Thor’s character to launch him forward into the next films. Now we can sit back, relax, and await the next film, Thor: Love and Thunder, because we just know how good it will be. Waititi has made Thor fun again, and I can’t wait to see what comes in the next film.
