Chris Hemsworth Teases Thor's Post-DOOMSDAY Film Future Saying "We've Got Some Ideas" That Are "Pretty Unique"
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is one of the original Avengers in the MCU, starting out in the 2011 film Thor and continuing on in his own sequels, as well as the Avengers films that came after.
Since his last film, Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), we haven’t heard from the character, and some wondered if he may have hung up his cape and Mjolnir, but then he joined the cast list for Avengers: Doomsday. This made sense, as it wasn’t expected that Thor would just fade away, but fans thought maybe this could be his swan song.
According to Hemsworth, though, it looks like Thor will not only survive Doomsday and Secret Wars, he will be back for his own adventures beyond them.
In a recent interview on the SmartLess podcast (via The Playlist), Hemsworth teased that he still has a "couple more times" as Thor beyond the next Avengers movie, though we already know that at least one of those is Avengers: Secret Wars. He shared:
"It’s been so much fun. And what I’ve really enjoyed it—unlike a lot of what the other characters that the [actors] were given, they have had to be pretty consistent— whereas working with Taika Waititi on his films versus Kenneth Branagh with those films and then with the Russos, all [the films] had quite a different sort of tonal opinion.
“But [the Russos] also let me try different things. It’s the same with my tattoos, I’d be getting really bored [with] the same thing and having a real need to kind of throw [the performance] in different directions."
He went on to add: "I was talking to Kevin Feige about it, and he said it’s cool because the audience now expects dramatic turns with the character. And whatever we do next—we’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be [different]."
I like the arc Hemsworth’s Thor has taken through the years. He got a little goofy there for a while, but it broke him out of the boring character he’d first been portrayed as. I look forward to seeing where the God of Thunder goes next.
