Chris Hemsworth to Play the Lead in LETHAL WEAPON Reboot?

The rumor mill is up and running again. Sources at The Tracking Board say they have confirmed that Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, has been offered the lead role in the upcoming Lethal Weapon sequel/reboot thing.

The Tracking Board says:

Chris Hemsworth has been offered a starring role in the Warner Brothers reboot of “Lethal Weapon,” currently titled LIONHUNTERS

– as reports indicate the recent version of the script centers on the desires of an older cop’s son (presumably Riggs’) and his wishes to join the police force.

Reports indicate that Justin Lin is attached to direct with Joel Silver producing. Also, it has been said that creator of the original characters, Shane Black, will have some input in the direction the sequel will take.

With the assumption that the lead role will be the son of Mel Gibson’s Riggs, that leaves the door wide open for cameos by Mel and his co-star Danny Glover. I know that there is a lot of hate and discontent when it comes to Mel, and that is justifiable. Does his presence detract from the movie as a whole?

Regardless of whether Mel is in it or not, I am excited to see how the franchise continues. I think the story would work best if Riggs Sr. was dead and Murtaugh was playing the mentor role in Riggs Jr.’s life. It could make a great revenge flick, especially with Hemsworth in the lead. He plays the angrily conflicted guy really well.
