Chris Hemsworth Was Actually Set on Fire For That Wild Scene in The EXTRACTION 2 Trailer
The first trailer that was released for Netflix’s Extraction 2 offered an absolutely insane first look at the action movie! The trailer was basically a scene from the movie which saw Chris Hemsworth brutally fighting in a prison riot as he tries to help a young woman escape.
The insanity of the action scene just continues to escalate to the point where Hemsworth is on fire, beating the hell out of a guy while his arm is on fire! This full sequence is 20 minutes long, and Hemsworth was actually set on fire for the sequence!
The movie is being directed by Sam Hargrave, and is being produced by Joe and Anthony Russo, and they are going all out on the action with this one. While talking to Empire Magazine, Hargrave talked about this action scene, which is described as "the craziest one in cinema history," and he said:
"For me, the image of Chris Hemsworth beating the s**t out of a bunch of prisoners, while on fire, in the snow was something that I couldn't pass up. And hats off to Chris. It wasn't CG fire. And he had to do it over and over. I don't know a lot of people, let alone Hollywood A-listers, who are gonna let you light them on fire while on camera."
The director went on to talk about the dangers of a stunt like this, joking: "If the wind blows the wrong way, the moneymaker's right here.” He then talked about shooting the scenes, saying:
"We had a bunch of different jackets all prepped for him, with different layers. But we lit Chris Hemsworth on fire, and he beat up a bunch of guys all night. It was pretty incredible to watch."
Hargrave went on to talk about how ambitious shooting this scene was as its made to look like one long uncut sequence, saying: "It's an insane undertaking. It travels miles of terrain over the course of the sequence, and many minutes of time. It's very ambitious." He added:
"We build in certain stitch points where we could. But in those broken-up pieces you still have sequences that will be between 30 seconds and a minute-and-a-half. Sometimes there are 50, 60, 75 moves in a row with dozens of stunt performers. And it was at night, in the middle of winter. Chris had red ears and a red nose because he was freezing."
In the sequel, “After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.”
Hemsworth is joined in the film by Golshifteh Farahani, Daniel Bernhardt, and Tinatin Dalakishvili. Extraction 2 will stream on Netflix on June 16th, 2023. I’m excited about this one!
