Chris Hemsworth Will Play Wrestler Hulk Hogan in a Biopic Coming From Todd Phillips
It looks like Chris Hemsworth is going to be bulking up even more for a new movie role he is taking on. The Thor actor is set to play wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan in a biopic that is being developed by director Todd Phillips (Hangover, War Dogs) and writer Scott Silver, who most recently worked together on DC’s upcoming Joker film.
It’s looking like the film will end up being developed for Netflix, with producers Michael Sugar, Bradley Cooper, Phillips, and Hemsworth.
According to THR, the biopic will “focus on his rise and is described as an origin story of the Hulkster and Hulkamania.” The movie will not encompass his whole life or any of the drama that he’s been through in recent years.
I enjoyed watching wrestling when I was growing up in the 80s, and like a ton of other kids out there, Hulk Hogan was one of my favorites. His name and brand gave the World Wrestling Federation a huge boost in the ‘80s and helped launch the sport into what it is today.
Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan began his career in the late 1970s in the Florida wrestling circuit, and when he started in the WWF, he frequently squared off against Andre the Giant as a villainous fighter. When Vince McMahon took over the company and began expanding it into a national presence, Hogan was its face and by then a hero persona. By the end of the '80s, he was one of the Me Decade’s key personalities, gracing magazine covers, appearing on nightly talk shows and even headlining a Saturday morning cartoon.
It’ll be interesting to see Hemsworth in this role and how he ends up bringing this iconic individual to life. What’s funny about this is that back in 2017 Hulk Hogan said that he would want Chris Hemsworth to play him in a biopic, and now here we are! It’s pretty cool to see how things come together like this.
What do you all think about Hemsworth takin on the role of Hulk Hogan?
