Chris Pine and Karl Urban Address STAR TREK 4 and Say They Have Yet To See a Script

A few weeks ago we learned that Paramount Pictures and producer J.J. Abrams were moving forward with Star Trek 4. Abrams said at the time of the announcement, “We are thrilled to say that we are hard at work on a new Star Trek film that will be shooting by the end of the year that will be featuring our original cast.”

Not long after that announcement was made, it was reported that the cast of Star Trek had no idea that the film was being made. It was said: “most, if not all, teams for the franchise’s primary players — who include Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaña and John Cho — were not aware that an announcement for another film was coming.”

The project also doesn’t have a completed script, a greenlight, or a budget. But the studio is still hoping to shoot the film by the end of the year. Pine recently opened up about Star Trek 4 and says that he has yet to see a script, but he is excited about what is to come.

In an interview with Variety, Pine said: "I think everybody was like, 'Did you hear about this?' [Laughs]. We’re usually the last people to find out, but I do know we’re all excited. Whenever they want to send us a script, we’re ready for it." He added: "I don't trust anybody, but I'm excited. I love the story. I love 'Star Trek.' I love my people."

When asked if he knew anything about the story, the actor added: “We haven’t seen a script. I don’t know anything about it."

In a seperate interview with Variety, Karl Urban, who plays the Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in the films, was asked the sequel as well and he ealso confirmed that he has not seen a script.

"I haven't seen a script, I know nothing. But I would love to work with those guys again, so much fun, the best hang. We'll see."

Matt Shakman (WandaVision, Game of Thrones, Succession) is attached to direct the movie, and he’s been supervising the script, which is being written by Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires. That script is based off a draft by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

I just hope this next Star Trek movie turns out good and it doesn’t feel like a rush job, because at this rate, it seems like the movie is being rushed.
