Chris Pratt Is Set to Voice Garfield in a New Film Project

Chris Pratt is set to take on the role of the lasagna-loving cat Garfield in an upcoming new film project being produced by Alcon Entertainment and Sony Pictures. This is the second big animated project that Pratt has joined recently. He also recently signed up to play Mario in the upcoming animated Super Mario Bros. movie.

Garfield follows a “cynical and lazy orange cat of the same name and his interactions with his owner, Jon Arbuckle, along with his fellow pet, Odie.”

I grew up reading the Garfield comic strips that were created by cartoonist Jim Davis. Garfield made its big debut in June of 1978, which just happens to be the month and year that I was born. The character originally appeared on in 41 newspapers, and over the years that grew into 2,580 newspapers and journals, with an estimated readership of 260 million. To this day, it remains the most widely syndicated comic strip in the world.

Garfield was previously adapted in 2004 with Garfield: The Movie and there was a sequel in 2006 titled Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, both of which had Bill Murray voicing the character. I didn’t really care for those films. But, there were also a slew of great animated specials that were made over the years that audiences enjoyed.

I’d like to be excited about this new film project, but we’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out. For some reason, Hollywood just hasn’t been able to capture the spirit and magic of the original comic strips and animated specials.
