Chris Pratt Teases His SUPER MARIO BROS. Voice, Saying It's “Unlike Anything You’ve Heard”
Chris Pratt was an interesting choice to bring in provide the voice of Mario in the upcoming feature film adaptation of Super Mario Bros. Fans have been very curious about what kind of voice he will give the character. The only voice I have in my head is that classic Italian voice from the video games, but Pratt’s voice is not going to be that. In fact, he says that the voice he’s given to the character is “unlike anything you’ve heard.”
Producer Chris Meledandri previously said that Pratt will be doing a unique and different kind of voice for Mario and he was confident that it will win over fans. He said, "All I can tell you is the voice that he's doing for us, and Mario, is phenomenal. Yeah I can't wait for people to hear it."
Now Pratt has opened up about his voice, and in regards to that, he told Variety, “I worked really closely with the directors and trying out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear. It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before.”
The voice cast also includes Charlie Day as Lugi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and comedian Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
The movie is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who previously worked on the animated series Teen Titans Go! and the film Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. The script will be written by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Minions: The Rise of Gru). It will be produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo.
