Chris Pratt Weighs In on Whether He Thinks Peter Quill and Gamora Should Have Gotten Back Together in GOTG Vol. 3

The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy followed the character Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) as he traveled through space, gaining a crew of endearing misfits to help him on his various quests.

Along the way, he and Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) fell for one another, but she was sadly sacrificed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, and Peter was devastated by the loss.

He seemed to see a second chance for the pair when a Gamora from another timeline crossed his path in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but she was not the Gamora he lost, and she was ultimately not interested in being a replacement.

It made for a bittersweet conclusion to the trilogy, but Pratt doesn’t think it really could have gone any other way. In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Pratt was asked if he was sad that the couple didn’t get together in the end, and he responded:

“No, I don’t think [I’m sad]. I think it’s more interesting. The conflict is probably more interesting. Because I think relationships that run their course have a relatively natural progression…. I mean, they can both be very interesting.”

He went on to add:

“I don’t think that would’ve been a good arc for Quill and Gamora. I thought it was, in fact, more interesting the way they did it. She came back, she was someone else. It’s more sad, and it also sets you up to tell more stories.”

The trilogy wasn’t meant to be tied up with a bow. While we knew it was probably James Gunn’s last Marvel film for the foreseeable future as he headed off to DC, the post-credits scenes gave us some hope of a future for these characters in the MCU. Like Pratt said, there are still more stories to tell.
