A few months ago it was reported that Amazon Studios picked up Chris Pratt’s sci-fi action film The Tomorrow War for cool $200 million. We’ve now learned that the movie will exclusively premiere on Amazon this summer on July 2nd.

The film was originally supped to be released last year in theaters during Christmas, and then it was pushed to July 23rd. Now it’s not going to be released in theaters at all, it’s just going straight to Amazon, which seems like a shame. This was a flick I was looking forward to seeing in theaters.

In The Tomorrow War, “the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight. Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.”

Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie) directed the film from a script by Zach Dean (Deadfall). It co-stars Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin, Keith Powers, Sam Richardson, and J. K. Simmons.

What do you all think of the movie skipping theaters and going straight to Amazon?
