Chris Rock is Up For Making Another SAW Movie If SPIRAL Does Well
It was an unexpected surprise when we learned that Chris Rock came up with a story for the Saw franchise, and Spiral: From The Book of Saw is set to hit theaters later this week. If you’ve been wondering if Rock is going to be involved with a sequel, he’s definitely interested in being involved with future films in the franchise.
During a recent interview with CB, Rock confirmed that he’s in talks with the studio for the sequel and says:
"We want this one to do well, so we don't want to get too ahead of ourselves, but, if this one does well, I could see myself doing this again. I could see ... I mean, I don't want to spoil the movie, but it's open ... another one wouldn't be out of the question."
When asked about reviving the horror franchise, Rock said:
"I think Saw is the perfect one, honestly. I think the Saw franchise, especially what we set up in this one, especially Spiral, I think we can get a few out of this one."
It’ll be interesting to see how many more Saw sequels Spiral ends up spawning. I haven’t really cared about the franchise for a long time, but the fact that this next one is coming from Chris Rock intrigues me and I’m curious to see what story he wants to tell.
Darren Bousman (of Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, Repo! The Genetic Opera) directed the film, which also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols. Here’s the synopsis:
A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner William Schenk (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw hits theaters on May 14th.
