Chris Tucker Says RUSH HOUR 4 Is in the Works
Chris Tucker was recently on the Winging It podcast and was asked about the long-rumored fourth installment in the Rush Hour movie series, starring himself and the incredible Jackie Chan. He responded by saying,
“We’re working on a few things on the script right now, so we’re trying to get into production. But we’re working on it and trying to get it going.”
He went on to say:
“Jackie Chan wants to do it, I want to do it, [the] studio wants to do it, so we’re trying to get it together.”
The hosts asked him if the sequel was contingent on his agreeing to come back, and he said:
“I guess, Jackie and me, but yeah, I was definitely down as long as it comes together right. And it looks like it’s coming together right.”
He sounds pretty confident in this installment, and even went as far as to tell ESPN that the next movie is:
“gonna be the rush of all rushes. Jackie is ready and we want to do this so that people don’t ever forget it.”
The first three films came out in 1998, 2001, and 2007, and all did really well in the box office. In 2011, Brett Ratner, the director of the first three films, was asked about a fourth movie, and he told Vulture that another movie probably wouldn’t get made because it would cost too much money to have Chris Tucker, Jackie Chan, and himself all come back. But after multiple sexual misconduct allegations, Warner Bros. has since cut ties with Ratner, so they will be finding a new director. No big loss there. And Chan has said all along that he and Tucker have just been holding out for a good script and the right timing. So that’s good news.
The first movies in the series are hilarious, and I think with the right writers and director they could totally have another huge hit on their hands. I’m excited to see what they come up with. How about you? Are you excited for another Rush Hour movie?!
