Christian Bale Laughs After Fan Praises His Gorr Performance in THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER

Christian Bale recently had a funny and surprisingly wholesome moment with a fan who wanted him to know that his performance as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder deserved more credit.

Bale played the chilling villain in Taika Waititi’s 2022 Marvel sequel alongside Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman. While Thor: Love and Thunder ended up getting a pretty mixed reaction from audiences, one thing a lot of fans seemed to agree on was that Bale’s Gorr was one of the best parts of the movie.

That sentiment popped up again recently during a casual encounter with the actor in New York City.

The Oscar-winning actor, who recently appeared in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, was stopping to sign autographs when a fan decided to give him a compliment about his Marvel performance. The moment was captured in a video that’s now making the rounds online.

The fan told Bale, “Don’t care what people say. You did a great job.”

Bale looked genuinely surprised and responded with a laugh, asking, “What are they saying?”

The fan doubled down on the praise while joking about the film’s reputation, saying, “It was the worst movie ever. For me, it’s a good movie. Don’t tell. Do not let anyone know.”

Once Bale realized they were talking about his performance as Gorr in Thor: Love and Thunder, he turned and repeated the compliment to another fan nearby.

“He said, ‘You did a great job. I don’t care what anyone else says.'”

Bale’s take on Gorr the God Butcher was widely praised, and a lot of Marvel fans felt the villain stole every scene he appeared in and wished the character had been given more time in the spotlight.

Interestingly, Bale himself confirmed that there was originally much more of Gorr in the film. In July 2022, the actor revealed that several scenes featuring the villain didn’t make the final cut.

Bale explained that there were plenty of moments he wished audiences could’ve seen. He expained that there was “so much gold, hilarious stuff, and creepy as hell stuff.”

Bale explained that if all of that darker and weirder material had stayed in the movie, it would’ve pushed Thor: Love and Thunder away from the family-friendly tone that Marvel Studios and the filmmakers wanted.

Still, even with limited screen time, Bale’s Gorr left an impression. The character’s eerie presence, haunting look, and brutal mission to eliminate the gods gave the movie some of its most memorable moments.

And if that fan interaction is any indication, there are still plenty of people out there who think Bale crushed it as the God Butcher.
