Christian Bale Talks About the R-Rated Cut Scenes in THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER
This summer’s Marvel blockbuster, Thor: Love and Thunder, was a ton of fun to watch, despite the naysayers. Some thought that director Taika Waititi let it get a little too goofy, but my family really enjoyed it. As it turns out, although the film’s villain, played by Oscar-winner Christian Bale, had a very dark story, he was almost played even darker.
In a recent interview with Inverse, the actor talked about how some of the improvised scenes he did were pushed to R-rated boundaries, with the support of Waititi. But he also mentioned that Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, played the voice of reason in those scenes, and made sure he knew when things were pushed too far:
“With Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika and me, we kind of knew that some of the stuff we were doing probably wouldn't end up in the film, but we wanted to just push it and see. Ultimately, it is and should be a film that all the family can go and enjoy. And Chris Hemsworth, a couple of times he looked at me it was like, Dude, that's a little too far. I don't think anyone's gonna want to see that unless it's an R-rated film. but it was a great joy to give it a shot. And we had a lot of fun in there doing certain scenes and takes on certain scene choices, even if they didn't end up in the final cut.”
I think it turned out pretty well. Sure, some things could have been more finely tuned, but I enjoyed it. And Bale was the perfect Gorr the God Butcher!
