Christian Slater Says He and Co-Star Tom Cruise Were Surprised That INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE Didn't Get a Sequel
AMC has revived Anne Rice’s Interview With The Vampire stories in the current series, but fans were first introduced to the characters in that world in the 1994 film of the same name. The movie starred Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas, Kirsten Dunst, Christian Slater, and Thandiwe Newton, and it has remained a fan-favorite film, even three decades later.
Because of its favorable reviews, as well as its gross in the box office, many have wondered why we never saw a sequel to the film. Christian Slater himself questions even now why that didn’t work out.
Speaking with ComicBook ahead of The Spiderwick Chronicles series coming to Roku on Friday, April 19th, Slater — who played Daniel Molloy, the interviewer in the film — revealed that both he and Cruise were surprised that the film didn't get a sequel, especially considering the first film ended with Cruise's Lestat biting Daniel.
"Tom Cruise and I were both surprised that Interview With a Vampire didn't get a sequel. That would have been fun. I mean, he did bite me at the end of that thing."
Joy Bryant, who costars with Slater in The Spiderwick Chronicles, noted that in this era, a sequel would have definitely happened, something Slater agreed with.
Several sequel ideas as well as reboots have been kicked around in the years since, but we never have seen another movie set in this world. Is that something you’d be interested in seeing return to the big screen?
