Christina Ricci Joins Tim Burton's Addams Family-Inspired Series WEDNESDAY

We’ve got some exciting news to share with you regarding Tim Burton’s upcoming Addams Family-inspired series Wednesday. Christina Ricci, the actress who played the character Wednesday in the original films, has been cast in the show and will take on a major role, which is awesome!

There are no details on who Ricci will be playing in the film, but apparently the creative team wants to keep it a secret so that it will surprise fans. But, she will obviously be playing a new character because Jenna Ortega is playing Wednesday. The report also says she will not be playing an older version of Wednesday.

Apparently, after Thora Birch left the show, Ricci was brought in to replace her, but as a new character “who is similar to the one originally played by Birch and will replace it on the show.” Ricci has been working on the show for weeks.

This is a coming of age comedy series about “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

The series also stars Luis Guzmán is playing Gomez Addams, and Catherine Zeta-Jones has been cast in the role of Morticia Addams. The series also stars Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa and Moosa Mostafa.

The eight-episode series was written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, and Burton will direct. All three of them will also serve as showrunners on the series and executive producers.
