Christoph Waltz in Talks to Star in ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL From Producer James Cameron

Robert Rodriguez is currently preparing to direct Alita: Battle Angel for producer James Cameron. I wish Cameron would direct it himself, but he'll be busy directing Avatar films the rest of his life.

Variety is reporting that Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Inglourious Basterdsis currently in negotiations to jump on board the project. If he's cast, he will join Rosa Salazar (The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials), who is playing Alita, a 26th century cyborg who’s rescued from a scrapyard and reassembled.

"The rebuilt Alita, remembering only her training in a deadly martial art, becomes a hunter-warrior, tracking down and eliminating vicious criminals. Within the context of an epic action-adventure, the film will explore a young woman’s journey of self-discovery and finding love."

According to the report, Waltz would play the character Doctor Dyson Ido, who is the cybersurgeon who finds the cyborg and becomes her mentor. It's a role that Waltz would be perfect for, so I hope the negotiations go smoothly.

The project is set up at Fox, and they've set the release date for July 20th, 2018. This is such a great story, and it has the potential to be a spectacularly awesome film. Hopefully, it reaches its full potential.
