Christopher Eccleston Is Actually Open to Returning to Play The Doctor for a DOCTOR WHO Series
Like many Doctor Who fans know, Christopher Eccleston has been very much against reprising his role as the Doctor for a Doctor Who TV series. But, it seems that playing the Ninth Doctor in those audio dramas he’s been making has softened him up a bit because now he’s actually open to it!
During a panel at the Supernova convention in Australia (via Screenrant), Eccleston shared one particular way that he could see himself coming back to the series… he has to be the only Doctor around. He explained:
“I’ve never been a fan of multi-Doctor stories. You know, when I worked on the series I had really strong ideas—surprise, surprise—about what works and what doesn’t, and I always think that multi-Doctor stories are a bit of a cash-in, and a bit of exploitation. Creatively they never work for me. … The Ninth Doctor in particular is a one-man band, definitely. So, he doesn’t work with other Doctors. If you want me back, you get me on my own.”
Well, I hope the creative team behind the series is listening, because I would love to see Eccleston back as The Doctor! That would be wild and crazy and awesome! Eccleston is my favorite of the Doctors, and I was always bummed out that he only got one season. That was a shame.
I’ve personally never been a fan of the multi-Doctor stories either. It’s just cool to see that Eccleston still has a passion for playing the character and that he’s open to reprising his role in a series if the right circumstances presented themselves. I hope someone, at least, attempts to make this happen.
