Christopher Eccleston Joins Daisy Ridley in The Disney+ Film YOUNG WOMAN AND THE SEA

Christopher Eccleston (The Leftovers, Doctor Who) is set to star alongside Daisy Ridley (Star Wars), Tilda Cobham-Hervey (Burn), and Stephen Graham (Venom: Let There Be Carnage) in Disney+’s upcoming film project, Young Woman and the Sea.

The film is based on the book by Glenn Stout, and the story chronicles “the daring journey of Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Ederle (Ridley), who in 1926 became the first woman ever to swim across the English Channel. The daughter of a German butcher from Manhattan, Ederle was a competitive swimmer who won gold in the 1924 Olympics. She attempted to cross The Channel after first swimming 22 miles from Battery Park in New York to Sandy Hook, NJ, setting a record that stood for 81 years.”

That’s a pretty impressive feat and this true story is sure to make a great film, especially with Kon-Tiki director Joachim Rønning at the helm. I really enjoyed Kon-Tiki and thought it was a great film. But, after that he made bigger films such as Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which weren’t that great, so I’m happy to see him directing another inspirational story that’s on a much smaller scale.

Eccleston is also a great actor and I’m happy to see that he’s landed another solid movie role.
