Christopher Eccleston Joins WHISPERS OF FREEDOM, Which Tells the Tragic True Story of an East Berlin Escape Attempt

Whispers of Freedom is a film project that recently wrapped production in Berlin, and it was announced that Christopher Eccleston (Thor: The Dark World, Doctor Who) and Thomas W. Gabrielsson (A Royal Affair) were cast in the film.

This film tells the tragic true story of the last East Berlin escape attempt. The story is set in the ‘80s, and it follows “young East German Chris Gueffroy in the lead up to his attempted escape from the isolated Eastern bloc state.

Gueffroy was the “last person to be shot and the second-last to die in an escape attempt while trying to flee to the West across the Berlin Wall.”

The movie is written and directed by Brandon Ashplant the rest of the cast includes Cameron Ashplant (The Last Bus) as Chris Gueffroy, Wendy Makkena (Sister Act) as Karin Gueffroy, Darragh Cowley (Masters of the Air) as Christian Gaudian, and Paul Freeman (Raiders of the Lost Ark) as Erich Honecker.

It’s explained that several German historians, authors, and institutions have helped with the development of this film to act as historical consultants, to make sure the story they tell is accurate.
