Christopher McQuarrie To Write and Possibly Direct MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation was a pretty spectacular entry into the Mission: Impossible film franchise. Because of its success, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions were hoping to get writer and director Christopher McQuarrie back to take on Mission: Impossible 6. Well, according to Variety, he will be back to write the script and possibly direct the next installment.

The studio and talent reps wouldn't comment, but the site says that "several sources with knowledge of the situation say talks are progressing towards a deal being closed, with one insider saying that the studio plans to get production up and running by next August."

Tom Cruise will, of course, star in the movie, and there's a possibility we will see the return Rebecca Ferguson in the role of Ilsa Faust. The studio has a holding option for the actress. I hope they take advantage of it because I really thought she was great in Rogue Nation. I'm sure the other usual suspects will return to reprise their roles as well.

If McQuarrie ends up directing the movie, it will be the first time in the film franchise's history that a director will have helmed more than one installment. I hope he comes back to direct because he sure did do did a great job with the last film.

Cruise is currently shooting Jack Reacher: Never Go Back in New Orleans.
