Fans Around the World are Traveling Hundreds of Miles to See TENET on the Big Screen
Fans have been anticipating the latest Christopher Nolan film Tenet for quite some time now. The information about the film’s premise has been scarce, but the promise of a new mind-bending Nolan film was enough to get anyone familiar with his work excited.
The director who has made Memento,The Prestige, Inception, and Interstellar, as well as the visually stunning blockbuster hits such as The Dark Knight trilogy, and Dunkirk. has expressed his excitement for fans to get to see the movie on the big screen
His body of work alone has fans chomping at the bit to get to see the film, as it is one of the only films that was supposed to open during the pandemic that didn’t opt for an at-home release. The movie cost a lot of money to make and is truly meant to be seen on the big screen.
So, that is just what some fans intend to do, no matter the cost. In a recent interview with Variety, several fans of Nolan talked about their travel plans across state lines, or even out of their country to see Tenet as soon as possible.
One fan, Tyler Tompkins, is a resident of Southern California who saw that his hometown theatre was reopening in Austin, Texas, and would be showing the film on September 1st. This prompted him to buy a ticket to fly to Austin, where he will see the movie (twice), then fly home when he is done.
Another L.A. based fan is headed to Utah to see the flick, and there’s even Lukáš Meinhart, a cinema manager based in Prague, Czech Republic, who had bought tickets for he and his wife who is based in Vienna, Austria, out of neighboring Slovakia for London in mid-September. But the recently passed travel ban out of Austria would cause the couple to have to quarantine for 14 days after returning, which they cannot currently do. So unless things change in the next few weeks, Meinhart is out of luck.
These are some truly dedicated fans! I’ll admit, my husband and I were going to have a date night this coming weekend, but we realized that we could see Tenet in theatres if we bumped our date back a week, so we did that. We are willing to make concessions, but I don’t think crossing state or country borders is one of them.
