Christopher Nolan Will Continue Making Large-Scale Movies Because He's Responsible for the Resources He Put Together
Christopher Nolan loves all kinds of movies, both small-budget indie films and big epic-scale projects. Nolan started off making little indie films such as Memento, but over the years he managed to put together the resources to make any kind of films that he wants and they are mostly big-budget blockbusters.
The filmmaker will never go back to making those small films because he wants to take advantage of the resources that he now has. Why go backward? He recently explained in an interview with Time magazine, that he has the responsibility to use what he has built. He said:
“I’m drawn to working at a large scale because I know how fragile the opportunity to marshal those resources is. I know that there are so many filmmakers out there in the world who would give their eye teeth to have the resources I put together, and I feel I have the responsibility to use them in the most productive and interesting way.”
That’s exactly what he’s doing. Nolan is making some incredible films and experimenting with cool, interesting, and original ideas. I hope he keeps going in that direction because Hollywood lacks originality these days and Nolan can pretty much do whatever he wants, which is rare for any filmmaker even those who are established.
His movie recent film, Oppenheimer, has been nominated for 13 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. I don’t think it’s Nolan’s best film, but it’s a great film that will most likely walk away with a bunch of awards.
