Christopher Walken Recalls Auditioning For STAR WARS with Jodie Foster
It’s well-known by fans that Christopher Walken was one of many actors who auditioned for the role of Han Solo in George Lucas’ Star Wars. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the actor reflected on his experience auditioning for the movie and how he auditioned opposite Jodie Foster.
"I think it was for Han Solo. Yes, I auditioned for it. And if I'm not mistaken, my partner in the audition was – I think this is true – it was Jodie Foster ... I think we did a screen test. I'm not sure we did a scene. Maybe we just sat in front of, in those days, those old videotape cameras ... I did audition for Star Wars, but so did about 500 other actors. It was lots of people doing that."
Foster recently talked about her own Star Wars audition and how she was actually offered the role of Princess Leia, but had to turn it down. She said:
"They were going for a younger Princess Leia but I had a conflict. I was doing a Disney movie and I just didn't want to pull out of the Disney movie because I was already under contract ... And they did an amazing job. I don't know how good I would have been. I might have had different hair. I might have gone with a pineapple."
Somewhere in an alternate universe, there’s a version of Star Wars that stars Christopher Walken as Han Solo and Jodie Foster as Princess Leia. It’s hard to imagine anyone else in these roles, but it makes you wonder how Star Wars and its fandom would’ve been very different with other actors in these iconic roles.
