Chuck Norris Was Behind the Outcome of Bob Barker and Adam Sandler's Fight Scene in HAPPY GILMORE
If you are a fan of Adam Sandler, or even just comedy movies in general, you have probably seen the movie Happy Gilmore. The film stars Sandler in the title role as a rejected hockey player who puts his skills to the test in a golf tournament in the hopes of raising enough money to save his grandmother’s house.
There are tons of hilarious moments in the movie, and one super memorable one is the fight between Sandler’s Happy Gilmore and guest golfer Bob Barker, of The Price is Right fame.
The script, which was written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, was pitched to Barker, and he was in… on one condition - that he win the fight.
This is a common request from actors, like half the men in the Fast and Furious film franchise, so it’s not a huge surprise, but it was pretty funny coming from the elderly actor, who turned 73 just before the release of the film. But he wanted to come by the win honestly, complete with training sessions from none other than Chuck Norris!
During an appearance on Dan Patrick's podcast in 2021 (via /Film), Sandler confirmed the story, saying:
"Bob Barker read it, and his first response — and I know he probably tells everybody this — was, 'I'll do it. But I have to win the fight.' Because he fought. His nextdoor neighbor was Chuck Norris. And so he said, 'I train with Chuck, we train every night, and he helps me with my punches and my kicks, and I would love to do this, but I have to win this fight.'"
It’s awesome that he was willing to do the work to train for the scene, and it ended up turning into a funny and memorable movie moment. Check it out below, and thank Chuck Norris for Bob Barker’s awesome moves!
