Cillian Murphy Says That PEAKY BLINDERS Season 6 Is "Dark as F**k"
Fans seem to be getting excited for the upcoming sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders. Now series star Cillian Murphy is building up the hype even more by saying that this next chapter of the series is “dark as fuck.”
During a recent interview with Esquire, Murphy went on talk about if we will see Tommy's redemption in the final installment, "I think that’s what Steve [Knight, showrunner] was aiming for, with loads of wrong turns along the way. But I don’t know. I’ll leave that to the court of public opinion. I don’t know if he’s been redeemed."
The next season continues the story of Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and his notorious family’s rise to power against the backdrop of working-class, post-WWI Birmingham. Shelby is also on a mission to take down fascist leader Oswald Mosley. Here’s the synopsis for the series:
Britain is a mixture of despair and hedonism in 1919 in the aftermath of the Great War. Returning soldiers, newly minted revolutions and criminal gangs are fighting for survival in a nation rocked by economic upheaval. One of the most powerful gangs of the time is the Peaky Blinders, run by returning war hero Thomas Shelby and his family. But Thomas has bigger ambitions than just running the streets. When a crate of guns goes missing, he recognizes an opportunity to advance in the world because crime may pay but legitimate business pays better. Trying to rid Britain of its crime is Inspector Chester Campbell, who arrives from Belfast to try to achieve that goal.
Peaky Blinders also stars Paul Anderson as Tommy’s brother Arthur, Sophie Rundle as his sister Ada, Finn Cole as his cousin Michael, Anya Taylor-Joy as Michael's wife, and Tom Hardy as Alfie.
Peaky Blinders Season 6 will premiere in early 2022. While Season 6 is the end of the series, there is the possible for a movie that will follow. That movie would start production in 2023, but Murphy has not signed onto it yet. According to Knight, that movie will probably “be the sort of the end of the road for Peaky Blinders as we know it."
